The Luminous Mysteries - Meditations of Bl. Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko

The Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan

The uniting of our fate with the fate of Christ takes place at the moment of baptism. It is divine adoption… Let us therefore ask God for a look at our own belonging to the Church not only in the light of duties, but in the light of distinction and raising us to the dignity of children… In the perspective of holy baptism we must see our whole life, and then it will acquire its proper meaning.

The Wedding at Cana

Authentic joy is the presence of God in us… The entire activity of Jesus Christ was directed toward making people aware that they were created for freedom, for the freedom of the children of God. Through His whole earthly life Christ helped people understand the meaning and value of human life…

The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God

Our slavery basically consists in submitting to the reign of lies, in not unmasking them and not protesting against them on a daily basis… If the majority of Poles in the current situation were to enter the path of truth… we would become a spiritually free Nation right now. And external or political freedom would have to come sooner or later as a consequence of this freedom of spirit and fidelity to truth.

The Transfiguration

Perhaps for the effectiveness of the Nation's sacrificial chalice, more of our personal involvement is still needed. Perhaps there are still too few of our voluntary sacrifices, too little purely human solidarity. Too little courage to unmask evil, too little concern for the suffering, the wronged… Perhaps there is still too much egoism in us, too much fearfulness, too much drunkenness, too many venal people, lacking their own opinion, wanting to advance their own interests at the expense of others…

The Institution of the Eucharist

The Holy Mass is the most perfect form of prayer that the faithful people offer to God, the Father of peoples and nations. Through our prayer we want to serve God and people. We want to include God in the difficult and painful affairs of our Homeland… When we unite with God through faith and prayer, we then achieve victory over evil. The Eucharist gives the most strength for such a struggle.
